BrightSource’s share on Concentrated Solar Power Tower solar field innovation and experience

BrightSource Energy designs, develops and deploys concentrated solar power (CSP) technology to produce high-value steam for electric power, petroleum and industrial-process markets worldwide.

As one of world leading Concentrated Solar Power Tower technology provider, BrightSource has been developing and providing services to well-known CSP projects globally, three of the typical ones are:

  • 392MW Ivanpah Concentrated Solar Power Tower Project in California’s Mojave Desert
  • 121 MW Ashalim Plot B Concentrated Solar Power Tower Project in Israel’s Negev desert
  • 100MW Molten Salt Tower Concentrated Solar Power Plant of 950MW Noor Energy 1 CSP-PV Project in Dubai

Ivanpah, which began commercial operation in 2013, is delivering power to PG&E and Southern California Edison. The Concentrated Solar Power project is currently the largest solar thermal power plant in the world.

As the first Concentrated Solar Power tower commercial plant in Israel, 121MW Ashalim Plot B has been operational since April this year in 2019. More than 50,000 computer-controlled heliostats, or mirrors, that track the sun on two axes and reflect sunlight onto a boiler on top of a 250-meter tower.

950MW Noor Energy 1 CSP-PV Project in Dubai consists of one 100 MW tower plant, and three 200MW parabolic trough plants, ranking No.1 of world Concentrated Solar Power complex with the total capacity of 700 MW. BrightSource is working as the Tower Project Technology Provider.

As a pioneer in Concentrated Solar Power Tower technology, BrightSource is happy to share the valuable experience and study. During the past CSP Focus China 2019 in March Beijing, Ms. Ziva Shavit, Project Engineering Manager of BrightSource Energy made a presentation on “BrightSource Engineering and Manufacturing System”, supporting the design, construction, operation & maintenance of CSP tower solar filed with case study on Ivanpah and Ashalim projects.

To further share and communicate with CSP industry players, BrightSource will send professional delegation to the upcoming 3rd CSP Focus Innovation 2019(Oct.24-25, Beijing China) again, presenting topics on “BrightSource’s Optimized Solar Field Layout Performance: General Considerations and Case Study”, “Safety Issues in Heliostat Movement in The Solar Field” and “Simulation of Solar Field Control System”. The speakers will be Morag Am-Shallem, Physicist, Jonny Gulayev, Software Developer and Kobi Pahima, Senior Team Leader of Software Development and Integration.
